1st GCC Prepares Structure for CRUZEX 2024

Approximately 200 military personnel will provide infrastructure, communication, command and control services for this multinational exercise hosted by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

The 1stGroup of Communication and Control (1st GCC), along with its subordinate Squadrons, began transporting essential equipment for the setup of communications and control infrastructure for CRUZEX 2024 this Friday (September 6th). The exercise, conducted by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), is scheduled for November this year.

This action is part of the final stages of an extensive operational planning process to ensure the successful execution of one of the largest military exercises in Latin America. Around 200 personnel from the 1st GCC are involved in the operation, providing support through the installation of radars, antennas, and communication systems to ensure the mission is successful.

The 1st GCC plays a strategic role in the installation and operation of communication and control systems. More than 30 dedicated frequencies will be implemented for aircraft control, and radars will be set up to enhance coverage and operational security. Notably, an air defense radar will be installed in Caicó (RN), increasing radar coverage and improving flight area supervision.

Teams from the 1st GCC will be distributed across six locations: Caicó (RN), Açu (RN), Santa Terezinha (PE), Sousa (PB), Recife (PE), and Parnamirim (RN). In Caicó, Assú, Santa Terezinha, and Sousa, the necessary communications infrastructure will be set up to support operations, with dedicated VHF and UHF frequencies. In Recife, flight controllers and technicians responsible for managing operations will be based.

Parnamirim will serve as the central hub for air operations, where aircraft and pilots will be stationed. The 1st GCC will provide technological infrastructure for real-time videoconferencing between controllers in Recife and ground-based pilots in Parnamirim.

In addition to aeronautical communication, the Group will also provide telephone and intraer (internal FAB network) services at all locations, ensuring that teams remain constantly connected and can communicate efficiently.

Lieutenant Colonel Tomaz Lopes de Araujo, Commander of the 1st GCC, emphasized their role in CRUZEX, providing command and control capabilities. “Our teams are ready and mobilized across various locations in the Northeast to directly contribute to the success of the Exercise,” he stated.
